New Employers - The EOP

Updated: Oct 12

As a new employer in Singapore, you'll be required to take the Employer's Orientation Program, or EOP, in order to hire. What does that entail and when should you take it?

The EOP is an online course that you'll need to take before the application can be submitted to MOM. You'll also be required to take it again if you've changed 3 or more helpers in the last 12 months.

The course lasts approximately 3 hours. The person who is going to be the employer of record should take it. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to be an EP holder - DP holders can be the employer of record too. You also don't need to be the primary breadwinner to take it, you can apply for the helper using your spouse's income. We advise the person who is going to manage the helper day to day to take the course - because the course is designed to teach you the MOM rules to follow and also about being a good employer.

The course costs about $35 online, or more if taking it in person. If you are a diplomat, you do not need to take it, you can have it waived. However, waiving the course takes time, so if you didn't prepare and you want to hire right away, you'll probably need to go ahead and take it just for expediency's sake. There are various processes involved if you need to appoint a sponsor to take the course, please find that information here:

Our advice is to take this course as soon as you have decided to hire a helper. It takes time, and it also takes a few days for it to show in the system that you have attended the course. Best to be prepared in this case by doing it in advance. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and take the course. You can find where to take it on the link above.
