Giving Back - Where to Volunteer?

It's 2025 now, the start of the new year. It's also the time when a lot of us think about how we can give back to the community. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities in Singapore, some of which directly benefit the domestic worker community. Here are some of the ones we've found.

Why you should volunteer.
Reasons to Volunteer

CDE

The Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) is a non-governmental organisation set up by the National Trades Union Congress in 2016. They aim to assist all domestic employees in Singapore, both local and foreign, if they face employment-related issues.

You can follow their Facebook page here, and you can find out more information about volunteer opportunities and sign up on their web site here. They train volunteers to help when migrant domestic workers need assistance.

ACMI Family to Migrants

ACMI provides skills courses to migrant workers to increase their skills. Do you have special skills to share with other domestic workers? They need volunteers to teach computer courses, crochet, zumba, guitar and more. Interested in taking a class? View their courses here.

Singapore Council of Women's Organizations

New2U by SCWO is looking for volunteers to run the shop on last Sunday for the month of Jan, Feb and Mar. The shop sells pre-loved clothing, accessories, household items, ornaments, books etc. All goods are donated by the general public and are sorted and sold to raise funds for SCWO's charity programmes and services, such as the Star Shelter. Duties include customer service, visual merchandising, cashiering, restocking and more. Join their amazing team of volunteers and spread the magic and joy of thrift shopping at New2U shops. Find out more here.

Uplifters

Uplifters enables migrant domestic workers to transform their lives by harnessing the combined power of online education and community support, by improving their life skills and their vocational skills — helping make migration successful.

Their core services combine technology with human warmth to enable personal growth.

Their signature program, ‘Dare to Dream,’ is a money management, personal development and mental health online course to enable migrant domestic workers to plan their financial goals, manage their money better and increase their mental well-being.

They believe supporting migrant domestic workers goes hand in hand with supporting their employers. They help local employers to help build healthy and successful working relationships with their domestic workers.

Uplifters needs help translating to Bahasa and Tagalog, and also if you've graduated from their programs, they are looking for peer mentors to help uplift other migrant workers. You can find out more about their programs here.
